Swim Meet

It's been a long time; Soren has not swam a meet since last summer! This weekend was her first shot at climbing back up to the "A" swimmer rank after aging up to the 11-12 group. Her previous times placed her as a "BB" swimmer. She achieved one A time (200 IM) and shaved time off of her other races bringing her really close to other A times. She had her first go at the 500 free with a time of 6:14. It was a good meet for her and I am sure that she will be back at the A level soon.

And here are some pictures (that I stole from Pop's computer) from our trip to see Grandma Freda...

Back to Basics

I feel like I have to blog something. It has been a couple of weeks and I usually have a lot to report in that amount if time. Alas, we are back to school, swim team, homework.....and on and on it goes. We did get to sneak off for the weekend to Grandma Freda's house. We enjoyed a couple of days of playing and eating with Grandma Freda, Aunt Danna, Pops and Nana. The girls adopted a stray dog for the weekend which Grandma reported is still hanging around her house (sorry, Grandma!)

Soren is still enjoying all of her endeavors and seems to thrive in all that she does. This week she will start her role as anchor on the school's news cast. She will be on the morning "owl call" each day through March. The broadcast is seen in each classroom on large screens connected to the computer. Cool stuff.

Reese is clicking right through her kindergarten year. After Christmas they began taking weekly timed math tests called "math mission". She was excited because this is what all of the big kids get to do and you see your name move up the line each time you ace your test within the time limit. So far she is three for three. They also started having weekly spelling tests. I really can't believe how much she has already learned. Just like a sponge.

Nothing exciting to report. I guess that is ok. At least we are all well with no problems to speak of. That is indeed a great blessing.

Catch Up

Wow. What a whirlwind break! We were with family every single day, I think. Here are the haps since Christmas.

Soren Turned 11!

December 30th my sweet girl celebrated her 11th birthday. I had to work, so we had family down the day before to go eat hibachi and have cake. On her birthday she got to be with Pete all day, so it was double the birthday fun.

The Lakeview Circle New Year's Eve Progressive Dinner

This is the best tradition ever. Our street has a progressive dinner to ring in the new year. We put the kids at one house with a sitter and the adults enjoy an evening of celebration without having to be out on the roads with all of the crazy people. We have such a good time together. We are blessed to have such great friends!

this marked the 3rd year in a row that Pete and Tom dove into the icy pool to celebrate the new year. Then it is into the hot tub to warm up.

this is how we found the girls when we came in from the party. pretty sweet.

New Year's Day Games

Traditionally, we invade Pops and Nana's house on new year's day to play games, but this time everyone made the trip down to our house. I just realized that we did not have black eyed peas! Sorry, guys!

Six Flags

As Kara and her family were leaving our house after our day of games, Kara suggested that we make one more trip to Six Flags. Grandma Charlotte gave us season passes for '09 and the passes were good through this weekend, so we met up the next morning (braving the cold!) for a day of rides. Reese rode the shock wave! Go Reese!

Avery is not so sure she likes the mexican hat ride, but Ashton is in heaven

turns out, Avery liked it!

Great Wolf Lodge

For Christmas, Papaw and Mamaw gave Reese and Soren a trip to Great Wolf lodge (a local indoor water park). Soren wanted to go for her birthday celebration, so she invited two friends to come along. We arrived Sunday at 1pm and stayed until 3pm Monday, leaving the water only to sleep (a little) and eat. What a fun place. Thank you, Papaw and Mamaw for an awesome trip!

reese fell asleep in my lap and I tried to snap a picture, but the flash woke her up and she wanted me to take one of her smiling instead, so here it is.
