Horrible Hair Day

When you are in kindergarten you get to do cool stuff. If you are learning about the letter "H" then it helps to have horrible hair day and hat day and fun stuff like that.

Did anyone get blown away in last night's storm? I was talking to my mother-in-law who was sitting in a blizzard in Denver yesterday. I knew there was a reason I did not live there. Pete and I enjoyed a 2 hour bike/1 hour run brick workout and it was 90 degrees. That is the way I like it. Now I gotta go clean up the yard.

Whoa Nellie!

All of this rain brought with it some changes in our household. Swim team is our biggest change with the coach being, well, "let go", from the Y (his competitive vision of swimming does not go along with the Y's recreational vision). We now have to decide what we want to do in terms of swimming and have taken the opportunity to reevaluate and open some other doors for Soren. Soren and Reese will start going to an acting class at a local theatre this week. They both got excited about the idea after we went to see a play that the company put on recently. Soren has always loved the spotlight and we think it will be good for Reese to be exposed to this as well. Soren made it into student council as class representative and also tried out for choir this week. Reese seems to have adjusted completely to having to go to school 5 days a week, so all is well in the Underwood world.

Too much fun

Soren and Reese got an early release on Friday and had Monday off, so we played a lot.

Friday night was another “first” for us as Soren was invited by some swim team friends to go to the high school football game after practice. I love these kids and like for Soren to spend time with them; but a football game, with all kids (there was one set of parents but I did not want to ask them to be in charge of Soren because they were actually trying to watch the game and the kids, of course, were not!) so I asked one of the older kids if they minded Soren hanging near her for the night. They are such an amazing group of kids. They had a great time and Soren was thrilled to be included with the big kids. We had a long conversation when I picked her up at 11pm about many of the things Pete and I have tried to instill in her these 10+ years. About knowing when a situation is inappropriate; about standing up for what you know is right; about making good decisions even when mom and dad are not around and will not know what you choose. Now I just trust that her love of Christ will lead her in these new situations and opportunities. Yikes.

Sunday evening Soren had a group of girls for a sleepover. Another great group. I was totally impressed. I stayed within earshot until they fell asleep at nearly 4am and the only thing I disapproved of was the shaving cream fight that started just past 2am. They were kind to each other, kept themselves entertained, and even included Reese (without being asked!).

Monday we spent a few fun hours at S*ix Fl*ags with the Guerry’s. Each time I go I am reminded how much I love roller coasters. And now I have Soren to ride them all with me! (Pete does not like large groups of people, lines or roller coasters, so that is not his favorite place). Being a school night and considering the fact that we got a mere 4 hours of sleep the night before, we headed home at 5.

No, I am not the meanest mom in the world. This picture was snapped on the big swinging boat ride, which Reese insisted on riding at the very back where you come all the way up out of your seat and nearly fall forward. I warned her about it and she wanted to try it. Mat and I were sitting in front and he snapped this at the peak of the swing. When the ride was over, Reese hopped happily to the next ride and was not phased a bit, but will not ride that particular ride again!

A new week. All's well.
