Soren and Reese got an early release on Friday and had Monday off, so we played a lot.
Friday night was another “first” for us as Soren was invited by some swim team friends to go to the high school football game after practice. I love these kids and like for Soren to spend time with them; but a football game, with all kids (there was one set of parents but I did not want to ask them to be in charge of Soren because they were actually trying to watch the game and the kids, of course, were not!) so I asked one of the older kids if they minded Soren hanging near her for the night. They are such an amazing group of kids. They had a great time and Soren was thrilled to be included with the big kids. We had a long conversation when I picked her up at 11pm about many of the things Pete and I have tried to instill in her these 10+ years. About knowing when a situation is inappropriate; about standing up for what you know is right; about making good decisions even when mom and dad are not around and will not know what you choose. Now I just trust that her love of Christ will lead her in these new situations and opportunities. Yikes.
Sunday evening Soren had a group of girls for a sleepover. Another great group. I was totally impressed. I stayed within earshot until they fell asleep at nearly 4am and the only thing I disapproved of was the shaving cream fight that started just past 2am. They were kind to each other, kept themselves entertained, and even included Reese (without being asked!).

Monday we spent a few fun hours at S*ix Fl*ags with the Guerry’s. Each time I go I am reminded how much I love roller coasters. And now I have Soren to ride them all with me! (Pete does not like large groups of people, lines or roller coasters, so that is not his favorite place). Being a school night and considering the fact that we got a mere 4 hours of sleep the night before, we headed home at 5.
No, I am not the meanest mom in the world. This picture was snapped on the big swinging boat ride, which Reese insisted on riding at the very back where you come all the way up out of your seat and nearly fall forward. I warned her about it and she wanted to try it. Mat and I were sitting in front and he snapped this at the peak of the swing. When the ride was over, Reese hopped happily to the next ride and was not phased a bit, but will not ride that particular ride again!
A new week. All's well.
