Splash Bash / Field Day / New Water Slide

Friday was a day of fun outside at Soren's school. They got to cook out, play on cool water slides and then have field day. We left school at 1:30 and went straight to the pool where we stayed until after 6:00.

Saturday morning we got up early to ride in the Burleson Honey Tour bike ride. Nana came down and it was going to be so much fun. Our plan was to ride the 32 mile route. Nana and Soren on their bikes and me pulling Reese on the trail-a-bike. No problem. Well, there was a problem. I had never tried putting the trail-a-bike on my tri-bike and it was not a good thing. Reese and her bike weighed 3 times as much as me and my bike and I had NO control. I had to squeeze the handle bars so hard to keep control that my finder tips were numb. So 12 miles into the ride I hollered for my mom to pull over and sadly admitted that I was not having ANY fun at all and I wanted to turn around and go home. So we did. Sorry Nana. We did get 24 miles in, which was her longest ride so far. No pictures of the very stressful ride...

Sunday we went to Pops and Nana's to have a cook out and play and celebrate Pete's birthday (coming up this Thursday). The beautiful weather found us outside in the pool for the majority of the day, which is what we all love best.

Today was really cool. Our street has grown by a few families this year and the water slide we bought last summer just was not big enough to handle all of the kids....so we bought this:

so cool! We had a blast playing on this all day today. Around 5 we pulled out the grills and made it an official Memorial Day cookout. I could not ask for a better group of friends and neighbors. Hope you all had a great Memorial weekend.

Last Day

Today was Reese's last day of Mother's Day out for this school year. It was a fun day of play and a sweet ceremony this evening. We will miss Ms. Summer; she is one of those very special people who truly loves children. We could not have asked for a better teacher.

one last party for good measure

lined up for graduation

Reese and Ms. Summer

The class was "Ms. Summer's Sheep" so the kids were given a sheep at the ceremony

If you inflate it, they will come

After church the girls wanted to put up the slide. Two girls playing multiplied into a block party within 30 minutes...

PR

New PR for me today. 95 mile bike ride! Woo hoo! Pretty exciting. It was an absolutely perfect day for riding and 10 of us took advantage of it. These are all people that are training for Ironman, so we added a 45 minute run on the end, making our total workout time 6:45. That is longer than any race I have ever done. Pete gave up his Saturday so that I could go with a group of riders that I know I can keep up with. He and the girls took a 20 mile ride and had lots of play time. What a fun day!

I can almost taste it

Soren had Friday and Monday off of school and that gave us a taste of summer. I love having Soren at home. She is such a great help to me and she and Reese play so well together (most of the time). We went water skiing on Friday. I wore my wet suit but the kids had no problem getting in the 67 degree water without one to ride the tube.

Saturday our neighborhood pool opened for the season so we hung out there for a while. I let the girls know in advance that I would not be getting in (too cold for me). Luckily Reese is a good enough swimmer that I am comfortable with her being in without me. She is a better swimmer than I am I think.

Sunday I was privileged to have an evening out with my grandmother, mom, mother-in-law, sister and sister-in-law. We enjoyed a nice dinner and then caught a movie. It was such a nice evening. Thanks to all of the dads for watching the kids.

Today we decided to try Chuck E. Cheese after a long boycott. That place is so crazy. I thought that today would be different since we are the only school around that is out for the day...and it was! There were maybe 5 people there. We finally used a gift card that was given to Reese on her 3rd birthday. Good times.

Only 3 weeks left and I will have days like this everyday! Yea for summer! Bring it on!

Fossil Rim

We have been busy playing. Taks tests are over at school so it is time for field trips, fun fridays, reward parties, etc. The funny thing is that we still have to be at school for 3 1/2 more weeks, but all that is planned is parties.

Last week, among other things, was a trip to Fossil Rim. This is a drive through zoo basically. You stay in your car and feed the animals. Soren was invited to ride in a friend's car, so Reese and I jumped in the back of a truck with some other friends. It was a lot of fun, lots of neat animals.
